Hard Work

(Peter Tracy)
2007-12
Hard Work: Written in response to Bush’s repeated mantra that what we’re doing in Iraq is “hard work.” this song is about what many vets, including myself, go through when they come home from a war.
It’s hard work to care about others
It’s hard work to give and take
It’s hard work to say you’re sorry
It’s hard work to admit a mistake

It’s hard work in Viet Nam
It’s hard work in Iraq
It’s hard work in Afghanistan
It’s hard work if you get back

It’s hard work when people can’t relate to you
It’s hard work cuz you’ve been in a war
It’s hard work but it ain’t too late for you
It’s hard work so don’t shut that door

Break

It’s hard work livin’ in a nightmare
It’s hard work it doesn’t go away
It’s hard work livin’ in a wheelchair
It’s hard work every god-damned day

It’s hard work to face to open up
It’s hard work to feel all that pain
It’s hard work to face the reality
It’s hard work you ain’t no John Wayne

It’s hard work begin the healing
It’s hard work lookin’ people in the eye
It’s hard work to feel what your feelin’
It’s hard work to learn how to cry

Break

It’s hard work when there’s no predictability
It’s hard work when you lose control
It’s hard work to take responsibility
It’s hard work crawlin’ out of that hole
It’s hard work to get your life together
It’s hard work when it’s torn apart
It’s hard work to learn to trust others
It’s hard work to open your heart

Repeat first verse
