Black Friday

Every year the day after Thanksgiving, the U.S.A. goes shopping. It’s called Black Friday because this is the official start of the Christmas shopping season and the shops can get back “in the black” which means making a profit or getting out of debt. (Getting in debt is called “in the red” which is where most Americans find themselves in January because they ran up their credit cards to buy lots of stuff. There are huge sales and stores open early to encourage people to come spend what they can’t afford. I believe the average American owes around $15,000 in credit card debt. Merry Christmas.
The day after Thanksgiving Black Friday rolls around
It ain’t a pretty picture when America gets down
Yeah we get down to business when we get down to the mall
And the retailers are ready – with shit from wall to wall

Black Friday, Black Friday that’s when the gloves come off
The stores are packed at 5 am like pigs packed at the trough
some folks camp out overnight just waiting for this day
So when those doors fly open, just don’t get in the way

There’s a stainless waffle maker for 1995
finding such a bargin can make you feel alive
so what if you have to stand in line at 4 am today
Merry Christmas, peace on earth, god bless the USA

It’s all based on credit – we’ve forgotten how to save
they’re trackin’ every purchase so they know how we behave
We pay a little every month, but we never pay it down
And it goes up each November when Black Friday rolls around

So if you must buy pay cash this year – it ain’t all that hard
Decorate your Christmas tree this year with cut-up credit cards
What does shopping have to do with Christmas after all?
