Somebody Should Do Something: Written to make some (other) folks feel more compelled to do what they can to stop our country from becoming a fascist dictatorship

I vote, recycle, have opinions, drive a hybrid
donate to charity—buy organic too
I’ve even had a lesbian over for dinner
what more do you expect me to do?

I sympathize with those protesters
our country is going insane
And someday I might protest too
But tonight I wanna watch that game

Are we really torturing people?
It just sound too bad to be true
I’m going to email my congressman
I’m sure he’ll know what to do

Folks are rotting in jail—held without charges
Seems un-American—doesn’t seem right
It’s a good thing Guantanamo’s over in Cuba
Makes me sleep a lot better at night.

I’ve heard that the last two elections were stolen
and these voting machine’s have no paper trail
And it’s also counted up by a machine
When you vote and send it through the mail.

Now spying on fellow citizens sounds unconstitutional
to protect us were told—at least that’s what they say
But I don’t think they’re spying on anyone I know
maybe this problem will just go away.

people held with no charges—in war with no end
Now torture is legal but gay marriage isn’t
America seems to be starting a trend

Fascism is such an ugly word—sounds so alarmist to me
Just saying it out loud makes me feel nervous
